In Remembrance

As part of this memorial, we are compiling the dates and causes of death for the classmates listed below. If any of you know some, or all, of the details about these unfortunate departures, please send an e-mail with this information to any member of the Editorial Committee.

As of February 21, 2024, of the 340 original LHS-59 graduates, as far as we know, 137 have passed away (41%), which indicates 59% of us are still here. However, if we assume that the 14 classmates presumed missing are, in fact, dead, then 45% of us have passed away, leaving 189 (or 55%) of us to carry on for as long as reasonably possible. So far, so good.

The list below is in order of date of death. See below for plots that indicate the known /suspected cause of death, number of deaths by year,

Based on the plots and table below, seems that we have passed through the cancer stage and have entered into the Alzheimer's stage, but at least 12 have died due to COVID deaths since 2020. Oh joy ! Let's enjoy what time remains, at least that which we can remember.....

COVID is still with us in places (here), but with the vaccines and new medicines, we are learning to live with it. Note: 16 or more of us died since 2021. Compare with previous years. Get your vaccines and flu shots every year !

Of Note:

Some of you have suggested that our class members are departing at an increasing rate in the past few years. In response, we have constructed a plot of # deaths/yr to monitor this activity. The plot in the link at the bottom of the page indicates that the rate is broadly consistent for a number of years and then the Pandemic arrived. After after, our death rate is sill elevated? Notice in the 2nd plot that almost all the deaths are due to cancer. Therefore, the rate of yearly deaths are unremarkable, although sad, but this does explain the numbers since 2021.

What say we all get back to the gym, start or resume walking, or get some other type of exercise? Also, let's say we knock off those White Castle burgers and fries. We know it's not easy.
